Types of Air Compressor and How they Work: |

An Air Compressor is a flexible device required for delivering compressed air into a particular space. It is used in a wide range of settings including home, industrial settings, commercial businesses and jet engines among others. In fact, air compressor system has been in use in industrial settings for over a century.
- There are different types of air compressors, made to cater to different requirements. Every Air Compressor differs in terms of cooling technique, lubrication, compression stages and source of power.
- There are three types of air compressors. The firs type of compressor is the Reciprocating Air Compressor. This compressor uses piston in order to compress and store air inside a storage tank. On the basis of the number of compression stages, this compressor can be a single stage or a double stage air compressor.
- The second type of air compressor is the Rotary Air Compressor. This compressor is comparative to the positive displacement of the reciprocating air compressor. Here the piston is replaced with a pair of spinning helical screws. With the spinning of the screws towards each other, the air gets compressed and moves into a storage tank.
- The third type of air compressor is the Centrifugal air compressor Singapore. This compressor is required when there is a high demand for compressed air. An impeller rotates at a very high speed to increase the speed of the air. The air is then pushed into a diffuser for transforming the velocity into pressure.
- When it comes to air compressor parts, there are two main components in it – the compressing mechanism and the power source. The first part can be a rotating impeller, a piston or a van. And, the source of power can be an electric motor or some other source of energy.
- If you want to know how air compressor works, then the basic principle in it is to compress the atmospheric air before using it as per requirement. The air gets drawn inside using an intake valve. With the increase in the amount of air inside the storage tank, the pressure increases. The pressure inside the tank can be controlled as per your requirement.
- When the pressure limit reaches the maximum, the switch automatically shuts down further intake of air. The level of pressure falls when you use the compressed air. The pressure can be increased by increasing the intake of air. This way the cycle keeps going on in an Air Compressor.
